There was no dominant main characters in this blog. All the women who spoke seemed to share the main character role, they all talked about the same time, their didn't seem to be a woman who talked more than another women. These women represent just a fraction of all the women who work in combat and are deployed in Afghanistan. These women are much different then men. They stand for different things. They want to prove the stereotype that women aren't strong enough.
"We want to show that women are just as suitable for certain jobs as men. Sometimes a man can't do a woman's job(in combat) and sometimes a woman can't do a mens job" They are trying to say that you can't tell women she can't have a job because she's not strong enough, before you even try and sometimes a man can't do a women's job, but you can't define it before. Another quote was "On December 2015, Ash Carter opened all combat roles to women" I think this shows a step in the right direction, letting women be women.
The story starts by talking about how women were told they can't do this and how they aren't strong enough. Then it begins to transition into how they have tried to change that and the things that women have done to prove that they are strong enough. There was a program started just for women to help women in Afghanistan that these women had to be selected for, trained for, and they had to be strong enough to do it. Then they went to how now things are opening up for women in combat, all roles in combat women are legible for.
This was in expository mode. The women all spoke and narrated it together. Shot types used were pans, extreme wide shots, wide shots, mid shots, and two shots. All these were used to help capture everything around them. They used images of women in combat in the field which really helped show the intenseness.
What they did to really capture my attention was show images of women in the field. You really realize that its real and that people are out there. You also get to see what they are talking about and not just picture in your head women holding guns. These women are strong, bold, and brave.
This is important because women are oppressed in our society. People just don't think women are strong enough, which isn't true. This film was showing that women are more than just housewives, women are there and they are strong and bold, just like men.
